Siegel Named Chair of IAAF Marketing Commission

USATF Release

USATF CEO Max Siegel on Wednesday was appointed by IAAF President Sebastian Coe to serve as chair of the IAAF Marketing Commission.

IAAF commissions are designed to assist in Coe's effort to change and improve the sport of track and field and how it is administered internationally.

"I am honored to have been selected by President Coe to chair this important IAAF commission," Siegel said. "The sport of track and field is at a crossroads, and I look forward to helping President Coe diversify and grow revenue streams and to help increase the sport's profile internationally."

The CEO of USATF since May 2012, Siegel has led USATF to an 84.2% increase in annual revenue and a nearly five-fold increase in net assets. In December, he announced that USATF's budget for 2016 stands at $35 million, the largest in the organization's history. The increase in assets and budget has been driven by USATF's record levels of activity in sponsorships and partnerships: since February 2013, USATF has made 10 partnership announcements, including The Hershey Company, KT Tape, Rosetta Stone, the University of Phoenix and a landmark, 23-year deal with Nike that drew the attention of the international sports business world.

Siegel previously served as President of Global Operations at Dale Earnhardt Inc., as Senior Vice President at Sony/BMG, and as President of Zomba Gospel, Tommy Boy Gospel and Verity Records, where he led one of the most profitable divisions in the Sony BMG system.

Siegel's diverse background will play a significant role in his work chairing the IAAF Marketing Commission. "The commission chairs draw upon the vast array of experience and expertise from across the globe, from within and outside the athletics family," Coe said, adding that commissions are designed to help the IAAF "build a modern sport which is open to new ideas and is fast and responsive to the challenges which lie ahead."
